The Duxbury Senior Center Outreach Program serves Duxbury seniors, age 60 plus, and their family members by providing information, support and assistance in assessing needs and accessing senior services. Our staff provide services through home and office visits and telephone contacts. Some common requests for assistance include finding home care services, financial assistance with food and fuel, transportation, housing and support through a difficult life transition. Walk-ins are also welcome.
All Outreach staff are mandated reporters of elder abuse, neglect and self-neglect. If you suspect a senior age 60 plus is a victim of elder abuse, neglect or self-neglect or if you are a victim of elder abuse or neglect, contact the Protect Service Dept. at Old Colony Elder Services at 508-584-1561 or the Elder Abuse Hot-line at 800-922-2275. You may also contact our Outreach staff if you need assistance with the reporting process.
The Town of Duxbury Veteran’s Office serves veterans, their spouses, widows and/or dependents with counseling and assistance with procuring Federal and State benefits or entitlements for which they may be eligible.
On the state and local levels, the Veteran’s Office seeks benefits for financial assistance, medical treatments, fuel assistance, tax abatements, housing, employment and counseling to those who are qualified under MGL: Chapter 115.
The Town of Duxbury Veteran’s Office is located at the Duxbury Senior Center. A part-time VSO (Veterans’ Service Officer) is available for assistance by appointment. Call 781-934-5774, ext. 5740.
Other Assistance Programs
The Fuel Assistance Program provides low-income households with help paying home heating bills. The Senior Center offers assistance to Duxbury seniors age 60+ in completing and submitting applications to South Shore Community Action Council. Duxbury Interfaith Council (DIC)
The Duxbury Interfaith Council provides emergency financial assistance to Duxbury residents needing help with food, fuel or other basic needs. Contact the Duxbury Interfaith Council Outreach Program at 781-934-8388.
The Town of Duxbury King Caesar Fund
The King Caesar Fund provides assistance to financially needy citizens of Duxbury who are unable to pay for medical expenses and have exhausted all other possible resources.
Requests for financial assistance from this fund can be made by contacting the King Caesar Staff Liaison in the Selectmen’s office at 781-934-1100 ext. 5402. You may also contact the Outreach Department at ext. 5730 for more information or assistance in the application process.
SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Everyone)
SHINE provides free health insurance information, counseling and assistance to Massachusetts residents on Medicare. Call the Council on Aging at ext. 5703 to schedule an appointment with a SHINE counselor. This service is free.

Senior Tax Work-Off Program
This program offers Duxbury residents age 65+ an opportunity to work for the Town and receive a tax credit. For more information on this program, contact our Volunteer Manager at ext. 5713.
AARP Tax Return Counseling & Preparation
AARP trained volunteers are available to prepare federal and state income tax returns for low income seniors. Appointments can be made beginning in February by calling the Front Desk at ext. 5703. There is no charge for this service.
The Massachusetts “CIRCUIT BREAKER” TAX PROGRAM (a tax credit or refund) is for persons 65 or over whose property taxes (or 25% of rent) exceed 10% of their annual income and who meet other qualifying criteria.
